My Fall Break
Saturday: I went to UNC(The Uni of North Carolina Chapel Hill) with Laura and Sabrina (this super chio gal from China). It's a 20min ride from Duke West campus. UNC's food avenue called Franklin Ave is ten times better than our equivalent, 9th street. All these places are like Holland Village, full of quaint shops and eateries. 9th Street is pathetic in a way that there are too many places that sell food and too few places selling other stuff. Franklin ave had so many accessories and clothes shops that Sabrina bought about $200 worth of things!!! There were even 2 clothing shops that didn't look as posh as the things they sold. A skirt for US$127!!!!!In a rather dingy shop selling "fashionable" clothes. Hmmmm...seriously I'd rather go to Ngee Ann City's super posh shops and buy a similar skirt and enjoy excellent service etcetc.
We had dinner at a sushi place. Unknowingly I ate a soft shell crab!!UGH! (it's called spider roll) It was rather crunchy and tasty though, I thought I was eating chicken!!!!
Sunday: The SEAsian COOKOUT! YumYum...many tasty dishes were prepared at our senior's apartment. 10 freshmen went to shop for groceries then cooked their specialities. As I couldn't cook I had to help out in the kitchen. Oh, the thought of a knife wielding Jinghui is the funniest thing in the world. She was very helpful by chopping up partially defrosted chicken but the thing is that chopper was not sharp enough. Hence, she madly attacked the chicken drumstick with her fist hitting the chopper. My friend got it down on video. It was so funny....vulgarities and all.how sinister!
The food was SOooooooooooooooo good. We had Yingmin's specialty chicken and potatoes, chicken curry, mixed vegetable, tom yam soup (prepared by a Thai girl!), tofu and our senior's longan and almond jelly.
Monday: Most people were mugging cuz Fall break is ending... A couple of us went to this restaurant called "top of the hill" in UNC. It served great food though it was really expensive. Also, we were inappropriately dressed. Nearly all the women were either in suits or in dresses. Whatever it is, I'd rather not eat ang moh food...Where's my char kway teow?
