Updatesupdatesupdates

OKOK This is the super mega update, as promised. Sorry that it’s coming so late that most of you have probably stopped looking through my blog but this time I have really been so horrendously busy that I lost all mood to blog.
Now is the opportune moment to blog because my mum is hosting her sisters downstairs and the whole house has become very noisy (people who’ve visited my house should know why). This means my mum won’t come and see what I’m doing and I have a sufficiently legitimate reason to blog since it’s too noisy to read.

Let me start with hmmm 17th April =)

I’d like to thank all of you who turned up for my bday celebrations and those in Singapore who remembered my bday! Too bad I have no photos of the humongous Black Forest Cake… Thank you SHEK for the flowers and the pink !!! :) beach tote from Pottery Barn. Too bad I can’t bring it to Geneva but it will be my school bag for the semesters to come! Chiat, thank you for everything…

Spending my 21st bday at King’s Dominion Amusement Park. It’s a Nicolodeon themed park so there’s Spongebob Squarepants (you fans should know better than me!)e.t.c.
The place is somewhere in Virginia, about 2-3h bus ride away. I’m glad that Edens dorm organized this event and we were given special discounts to attend. It was a really nice and warm day, which was fortunate. Besides Chiat, Pat, Kim, Laura and Haoyi went…nice even number was good for taking rides.
King’s Dominion has many roller coasters, much more than any of the amusement parks that I’ve been to in Orlando. However, there is less “theme” involved…nothing as stunning as a concept as Duelling Dragons. Nevertheless, we had great fun as the lines weren’t too long even though it was a Sunday.
For starters…some Viking boat ride. Kinda tiring being hung up there upside down…I kept worrying that my sunglasses would drop off =P.
There were many novel rides…

Heard of a standing roller coaster?

How about a 200ft stunt drop?

Vertically up and down on a hydraulic roller coaster in 4 seconds?

Backwards roller coaster?

Coming out of a "volcano"?

Being sauteed like veggies in a frying pan?

I think I’m getting numb to roller coaster liao…Still thinking of going to Six Flags someday…no theme, just one thrill ride after another.

Rest of Spring 2005 semester: Spent it complaining about how little time I had to study and do my papers. Was living like a zombie for several days due to two papers…lack of grey cells I guess.

Brunch @ Wash Duke Inn: Yes, stuffed and bloated, plus got chased out early but I enjoyed the company! ;)

So, what have I been doing this summer?

1. Working – It was more stimulating this time – I’m glad I got to meet more people in office and ask them about their working experience. I received more projects and was handling 3 or 4 simultaneously. I even did site checks…yah…walking in the hot sun to check out storm drains along Defu Lane. Still a bit unnerved about the prevailing mentality there, which is “family comes first”. Within me lies this fear that I will one day abandon my superwoman ambitions, and end up married, living in a 5 room flat, 1.6l car and 2 kids on tow plus desperately in the rat race for the 5Cs. Some of you may think – that’s not bad at all…certainly it’s not… but isn’t it kind of run-of-the-mill? What, then, is the use of an overseas education? Where’s the “new”, “refreshing” overseas experience?

2. Planning side trips for Geneva – Divided duties with Chiat and am trying not to interfere with what he is planning. I should trust him more….even though I am super monster planner! Glad that we’ve booked all airtickets and hostels. We’re going to (in chronological order): Prague, Budapest, Lausanne, Berlin, Vienna, Salzburg, Rome, Florence, Naples, Interlaken, then dropping by his sister’s place in London for 2 nights. Sounds exhausting right? Half of these places are weekend side trips because we don’t have classes from Thur-Sun. Italy, Interlaken and London will be for after our course ends. Mum keeps saying we should have booked ourselves in those land tours but they are really costly…like US$100 a day. No way manz…
3. Reading up for Geneva courses – the reading list is SCARRRRYYYYY. The compressed nature of the course also makes each lesson very intense. Worried..dunno whether can cope. How to understand political philosophy?

4. Meeting up with friends:
Hoon – I miss you! Glad I saw you twice…am very happy for you…have fun in Japan and keep me updated!
SO6A – Great to see you guys. Seems like not long ago we were still donning RJC uniform and hanging around in the canteen/library. It was surprising that so many people turned up for this time’s meeting – almost half the class. Everyone is going different paths…
Chiat – hahahah tricked into having dinner with my parents...poor traumatized guy. Hope you ate your fill of scallops to compensate for your scary experience.
Dukies – Don’t you think the incoming dukies seem rather homogenous? I think we are moving towards “One People, One Nation, One Singapore” in our muggerish attitudes. Not too interesting, unfortunately. Had drinks later with Ailian and Kelvin.
Darren – Nice meeting up to share our experiences of studying in USA. It seems like the US experience is rather similar for both of us. Take care in UMich!

5. Studying GREs: headache…it’s just like SATs, more denatured and difficult. Gotta take it in the US...but I need to get a lift to the test center!

I'm heading to Geneva next Saturday! Keep in touch...:)
